About
Al-Akhdhar is an archaeologically significant cemetery located in Ash Sharqiyah, Oman, near Wadi Samad. The site is notable for its burial remains spanning multiple historical periods, including the Umm al-Nar, Wadi Suq, Late Iron Age (Samad), and Islamic periods. This diversity of cultural layers makes Al-Akhdhar a crucial site for understanding the region's historical transitions in funerary practices. Initially identified by Shaikh Hamdan al-Harthi and later surveyed by a British team, the site has undergone excavations by the German Mining Museum team, providing valuable artifacts that have contributed to the study of the Samad Late Iron Age. Despite its archaeological importance, the site faces threats from modern development, underscoring the need for preservation efforts.
