About
Puruchuco is a significant archaeological site in Peru dating back to the Inca period, specifically between 1438 and 1533 CE. Located in the Ate District of Lima, this site was an administrative center featuring a palace that served as the residence and management hub for a curaca, a regional ruler. The site is notable for its association with one of the largest Inca cemeteries, situated in the pyramid-rich area of Huaquerones. Although Puruchuco is the smallest compared to nearby complexes like Puruchuca, San Juan de Pariachi, and Huaycán, it remains an essential piece of Inca history. Despite its historical value, the site has faced significant challenges such as vandalism and urban encroachment, threatening its preservation.
