About
Qurh, also known as al-Ma'abiyat, is an important archaeological site located near Al-'Ula, north of Medina in Saudi Arabia. Identified with the ruins of al-Ma'abiyat in Wadi al-'Ula, the site served as the principal settlement of Wadi al-Qura. Medieval sources depict Qurh as a bustling town, second only to Mecca in the Hijaz region, noted for its fertile lands and abundant water sources, including numerous springs and qanats. The town was a vibrant community with a diverse population, surrounded by palm trees and orchards. Its significance is underscored by historical references to its size, productivity, and economic activity, marking it as a key habitation site during the Early Post-Classical Period.
