About

Kosmaj is a mountain located south of Belgrade, Serbia, notable for its archaeological and historical significance. It was a prominent mining center during the Roman period, with evidence of silver, iron, and lead extraction. The region saw a revival of mining activities in Medieval Serbia, particularly around the 15th century CE. Kosmaj is also home to significant religious structures, including the remains of monasteries such as Kastaljan and Pavlovac, which reflect the area's spiritual heritage dating back to the reigns of Serbian rulers like Stefan Dragutin and Stefan Lazarević. The mountain's natural and historical features make it a site of archaeological interest, contributing to its cultural and historical narrative.
