About
Remesiana, an ancient Roman city located near modern-day Bela Palanka in Serbia, played a significant role in the Late Roman province of Dacia Mediterranea. Built after the Roman conquest of Moesia, it was strategically positioned along the Via Militaris, linking Naissus and Serdica. The city is notable for its ecclesiastical history, becoming a suffragan to the Archdiocese of Serdica around 300 CE and continuing to hold significance as a titular see in both Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions. Important inscriptions and defensive structures were discovered in the area, highlighting its historical and strategic importance. Although the diocese was suppressed around 500 CE, the city's legacy endures as an archaeological site of great importance, protected by the Republic of Serbia.
