About
Bidaa Bint Saud is an archaeological site located in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., notable for its significant Bronze Age and Iron Age remains. The site features distinctive Hafit Period tombs dating from 3200 to 2600 BCE, similar to those at Jebel Hafit and Jebel Buhais. These tombs are indicative of the nomadic and pastoral lifestyle of the Hafit people, who were drawn to the site due to its groundwater source. During the Iron Age, the site evolved into a settled community with advanced irrigation systems known as aflaj, which predate similar systems previously attributed to Persian influence. The discovery of a large mud-brick building suggests the site served as a water distribution center. The site's strategic location on a caravan route further highlights its historical importance.
