About

Areni is an ancient village in Armenia, notable for its archaeological significance, particularly the Areni-1 cave complex. This site has yielded remarkable finds, including the world's oldest known winery from around 4000 BCE, indicating advanced wine-making technology. The cave also contains Copper Age pot burials dating between 4200 and 3900 BCE, offering insights into funerary practices and containing the oldest brain tissue found in the Old World. The Holy Mother of God Church, constructed in 1321 by architect Momik, stands as a testament to the village's historical significance. Areni is a rich archaeological site that provides a window into ancient Armenian culture and practices.
