About

Berdavan Fortress, situated on a hilltop near the village of Berdavan in Armenia's Tavush Province, exhibits significant historical and architectural features. Initially constructed between the 10th and 11th centuries, the site underwent major reconstruction in the 17th century, reflecting a blend of late-medieval and early modern architectural styles. Its triangular layout is fortified with eleven semi-cylindrical towers, varying in height due to the sloping terrain. A secret passage within the fortress indicates strategic planning for sieges. The nearby triple-nave church and medieval cemetery add a religious dimension, with khachkars and a large tevavor khachkar holding artistic and cultural significance. Archaeological finds, including ceramics and tools, provide insights into the daily lives of its historical inhabitants.
