About
Sadarak, located in the Sadarak District of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, is a site of significant archaeological interest. The area showcases evidence of continuous human settlement from the Neolithic to the modern era, featuring burial monuments from the Bronze Age and ancient habitation structures such as caves. The region was part of several historical empires, including the Persian, Byzantine, and Ottoman. Notably, its strategic position on trade routes elevated it to an important city in the Middle Ages, complete with an aqueduct system. The town has a rich history documented by travelers like Jean Chardin and Evliya Çelebi, and it was eventually annexed by Russia in the 19th century. Today, Sadarak is a vibrant community involved in agriculture and industry, with a population of over 7,000.
