Starosel, located in central Bulgaria, is an archaeological site of great significance due to its rich history spanning from the Neolithic to the Early Modern period. The site is renowned for its ancient Thracian city features, including a large underground temple, considered the largest in the Balkan Peninsula, and a mausoleum. These structures are linked to the reign of Thracian kings such as Amadocus II and Cotys I. The area also boasts the Horizont tumulus, unique for its Doric colonnade. Starosel's archaeological relevance is further enhanced by its defensive structures, including preserved walls and bastions, and evidence of Thracian craftsmanship and habitation.
