About
Malkata, an ancient Egyptian site, was home to a vast palace complex built by Amenhotep III during the 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom, around the 14th century BCE. It featured residential palaces, a temple to Amun, a festival hall, and villas, all constructed primarily from mud brick. The palace, known as Per-Hay or the Palace of the Dazzling Aten, was connected to the Nile via canals leading to a large harbor. The site also included a ceremonial lake and gardens, with richly decorated interiors featuring wildlife scenes and geometric designs. After being abandoned by Akhenaten, it saw brief reoccupation by Tutankhamen and later Roman influences, including a temple dedicated to Isis.
