About
Banesh is a notable archaeological site located in Iran, recognized as the typesite for the Banesh period, one of the earliest cultural phases in the region. The site dates back to the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods, with evidence of occupation from the sixth millennium BCE. Banesh was influential during the Proto-Elamite period, marked by the emergence of Proto-Elamite culture around 3300 BCE. This area, part of the Marv Dasht region, was strategically positioned on trade routes, contributing to the development of nearby Anshan as a major city during the mid-late Banesh period (3100-2800 BCE). Archaeological findings indicate a focus on agriculture, animal herding, and specialized craft production, including ceramic and copper processing. The site provides valuable insights into early urbanization and cultural development in ancient Iran.
