About
Kurd Qaburstan is a significant archaeological site located in the Erbil Governorate of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The site is primarily known for its occupation during the Middle and Late Bronze Ages, with its peak during the Old Babylonian period. Strategically positioned between the Upper and Lower Zab rivers, it features a large central mound and extensive defensive structures, including a city wall with bastions. Notably, the site is associated with the ancient city of Qabra, which played a pivotal role in regional history. Excavations have revealed evidence of a Mitanni presence, Middle Bronze Age residential areas, and significant religious and funerary structures. The site's successive occupations, destructions, and re-occupations offer invaluable insights into the sociopolitical dynamics and urban development of the ancient Near East.
