About

Al-Karak is a historically significant city in Jordan, renowned for its strategic hilltop location and the imposing Kerak Castle. Inhabited since the Iron Age, it was a crucial Moabite city before becoming a Roman conquest in 105 CE. The city then evolved into a prominent medieval site with the construction of the Crusader castle in 1132 CE, which was later captured by Saladin in 1188 CE. Under Mamluk and Ottoman rule, Al-Karak served as a key military and administrative center. The city also played roles in the Crusader period as the Lordship of Oultrejourdain and during the British Mandate in the 20th century. Today, Al-Karak stands as a testament to its varied past, with its vibrant blend of historical architecture and cultural significance.
