About
St. Margaret's Church, also known as Margaretakirken, is a medieval stone church located in Maridalen, on the outskirts of Oslo, Norway. Built in the 13th century, it stands as one of Oslo's best-preserved medieval structures alongside the Old Aker Church. Named after Margaret of Antioch, this church now exists in ruins but remains a significant historical site reflecting the architectural and religious practices of the period. The ruins serve as a backdrop for cultural events like 'The Maridal Play,' a historical outdoor play series that has been performed annually since 1974. The church site offers insights into the medieval ecclesiastical architecture and the historical landscape of the region, making it an essential part of Oslo's archaeological heritage.
