About

The Tiwi archaeological site, located in Oman, is a fortified village demonstrating significant historical habitation during the Samad Late Iron Age and into the Islamic period. Situated strategically between Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi, the site, known as TW2, is tucked behind a volcanic wall, offering natural concealment from seafaring visitors. This location has provided archaeologists with surface finds characteristic of the Late Iron Age, suggesting the presence of domestic and defensive structures. Despite the site's subsequent destruction due to modern developmental activities, the findings contribute critical insight into the settlement patterns and architectural strategies employed in the region during these periods. The Tiwi site serves as a valuable testament to the historical continuity and cultural transitions from the Late Iron Age through Islamic times in Oman.
