About
The Kobyakovo Settlement is an archaeological site located between Rostov-on-Don and Aksai in Rostov Oblast, Russia. It features a fortified settlement, believed to have connections with Tanais and the Bosporan Kingdom during the Late Classical Period. The site has a complex history, with initial settlements dating back to the Early Iron Age, around the 10th-8th centuries BCE. The Kobyakovo Settlement was further developed during the 1st to 3rd centuries CE, and it is thought to have served as a residence for Polovtsian khans. In the early modern period, a Cossack camp was situated near the former settlement site. The hillfort, located near the Don River, continues to yield archaeological finds, offering insights into the region's history and its strategic significance.
