About
Kageras is a late medieval fortification located in Upper Nubia, Sudan, on the eastern side of the Nile River. This site is significant for its defensive and religious structures, including a church built during the 10th or 11th century CE and a defensive wall added in the late Middle Ages. The wall, once approximately 3 meters high, is well preserved and features round towers at each corner, with an entrance to the north. The site likely served as a refuge for Christians during times of nomadic attacks, rather than a continuously inhabited settlement. Its strategic location and well-preserved architecture provide valuable insights into the region's medieval history and the socio-political dynamics of that era.
