About
Torbulok is a significant archaeological site located in Tajikistan, showcasing the remains of a Hellenistic period sanctuary. Positioned in a natural hollow at the foot of the Čaltau mountain range, the site is characterized by its unique geographical setting where streams from four springs converge. The sanctuary features two terraces surrounded by mud-brick walls, a mud-brick building, and a series of votive offerings deposited in a cult shaft. The presence of coins from Diodotus I confirms its Hellenistic origins. Various structures, including altars for food offerings and a kitchen area, reflect the site's ritual significance. The sanctuary was abandoned at the end of the Hellenistic period, but its associated settlement potentially lasted into the early Kushan era.
