About

Dibba Al-Hisn is an archaeologically significant site located in a pene-exclave of the emirate of Al-Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Known for its ancient maritime trade activity, the site has been inhabited since the late second millennium BCE. It played an essential role in regional trade networks, drawing merchants from diverse regions such as Sindh, India, and China. Under the Sasanians, Dibba Al-Hisn emerged as a prominent market hub. Later, during the 17th century CE, the Portuguese, during the Habsburg Dynasty, constructed a fort and defensive wall in the area. The fortification efforts were part of Portuguese colonial expansion in the region. The site's historical significance is underscored by its strategic location and its role in shaping the cultural and economic landscape of the Arabian Peninsula.
