About
Khor Fakkan, located on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates, is a site of considerable archaeological significance, reflecting a long history of human settlement and strategic importance. The area shows evidence of habitation dating back to the Middle Bronze Age, around the 21st century BCE, with the discovery of graves and settlement structures. During the 16th century CE, it became a fortified site under Portuguese control, serving as a crucial point for controlling access to the Persian Gulf. The forts built by the Portuguese, though now in ruins, highlight the town's historical military significance. The site also exhibits features such as wells and gardens, indicative of its role in agriculture and water management. Khor Fakkan's archaeological remains provide insight into the region's cultural and historical development over millennia.
