About
Sidi Daoud, a village in Tunisia, is constructed on the site of the ancient Roman town of Missua. This settlement, once part of the Roman province of Africa Proconsulare, played a significant role in Roman economy through its connections with Ostia. The archaeological features of Sidi Daoud include remnants of a Roman town and a Christian bishopric, notably marked by the presence of a mausoleum and church structures. Historical records indicate that the town hosted a bishopric, with notable bishops such as Irondino, who was exiled by the Vandal king Huneric in 484 CE, and Servusdei, who participated in the Carthaginian council in 525 CE. The site highlights the Roman influence and early Christian presence in the region during the Late Classical and Early Post-Classical periods.
