About
Idfa, historically known as Iteb, is an archaeological site located in Upper Egypt within the Sohag Governorate. In antiquity, it served as a notable cult place dedicated to Horus Iunmutef, with inscriptions on the temple of Edfu indicating its religious significance. The site, later renamed Itos by the Greeks, provides valuable insights into the religious practices of ancient Egyptians and their interactions with Greek culture. The presence of ostracas mentioning the Greek form of Horus Iunmutef and inscriptions from the temple of Dendera highlight Idfa's historical and cultural importance. This site encapsulates a blend of Egyptian religious traditions and Greek influences, offering a unique perspective on the area's ancient history.
