About

The Riesenberg megalithic tomb in Nobbin, located on Germany's Rügen island, is a significant Neolithic archaeological site. Constructed from glacial erratic boulders, the trapezoidal tomb measures 34 meters in length and includes a partially preserved dolmen. Two prominent guardian stones, typical of Scandinavian dolmens, flank the structure. Excavations unearthed Neolithic arrowheads, a sword, and pottery, alongside a 5th century BCE urn burial and 9th century CE artifacts, including an Arabic silver coin. These findings highlight the site's long-standing importance, spanning from the Neolithic period through the Middle Iron Age and into the Early Classical Period. Riesenberg's strategic location near the Baltic Sea and Danish islands underscores its cultural significance over millennia.
