About
Ecbatana, an ancient city in Iran, served as the capital of the Median kingdom and later as a significant city for the Achaemenid, Parthian, and Sasanian empires. Strategically located in the Zagros Mountains, it became a hub for political and economic activity throughout various historical periods. Notable for its concentric defensive walls and grand palaces, it was also a site of wealth and splendor. Ecbatana's significance is highlighted by its role as a seasonal capital for the Parthians and its presence on key trade routes. Despite repeated conquests and destruction, including by Alexander the Great and the Mongols, its archaeological remains, such as ziggurats and fire temples, continue to provide insight into its storied past.
