About
Tepe Hissar, located in northeastern Iran's Semnan Province, is a prehistoric site of significant archaeological importance with an uninterrupted occupational history from the 5th to the 2nd millennium BCE. This site served as a cultural and commercial bridge between Mesopotamia and Central Asia, particularly during the Early and Middle Bronze Ages, when it was a hub for the trade and export of metal artifacts and semi-precious stones. Noteworthy findings include a Sasanian Empire palace, fortresses, and a small fire altar indicating ritual practices. The site reveals extensive agricultural activity, with evidence of cereal cultivation and animal herding. Excavations have also uncovered numerous graves, showcasing elaborate funerary customs. Tepe Hissar's rich artifact assemblage and stratified remains provide valuable insights into the socio-economic and cultural dynamics of ancient northeastern Iran.
