About

Rmeileh, located in the Chouf District of Lebanon, is an archaeological site with evidence of habitation since ancient times. The site features caves used for settlement near what is now a modern church. Its strategic location near Sidon made it significant during historical conflicts, such as those involving Antiochus III and the Ptolemaic Kingdom. In the 19th century, Ernest Renan discovered ruins, including a unique Egyptian-style stone and mosaic fragments, indicating the site's historical richness. Artifacts like pottery, glass, and currency have been found, hinting at various periods of occupation and trade. Rmeileh's archaeological findings share similarities with other nearby sites, enhancing its historical and cultural significance.
