About

Altteureu Airfield, also known as Cheju-do No. 2 Air Base, is a significant historical military site located on Jeju Island, South Korea. Developed between 1926 and 1930 during the Japanese Imperial period, it served as a naval air base, primarily used for refueling, reconnaissance, and maritime patrols. The site played a crucial role during World War II, notably for training kamikaze pilots and as a defense point against Allied forces. During the Korean War, it was designated K-40 by the USAF and served as a refueling and communications hub. The site was handed over to the Republic of Korea Air Force in the late 1960s. Today, it is partially used as farmland, though many original structures, including aircraft bunkers and underground tunnels, remain intact, representing a rich historical legacy.
