About
The Shell Mound in Dongsam-dong, Busan, is an important archaeological site located on Yeong-do Island, South Korea. It features a shell midden from the Jeulmun pottery period, indicating human occupation as early as 8000-7000 BCE. This site offers a rare glimpse into the lifestyle and cultural practices of the time, with significant findings including Yunggimun, patternless, comb-patterned, and appliqué pottery, as well as bone and stone tools. The midden reveals evidence of Siberian cultural influences and prehistoric exchanges with Kyushu, Japan. These findings underscore the site's significance in understanding early human settlement and interaction in Korea, especially in the southern peninsula.
