About
Abiward, also known as Abi-ward, was an ancient city belonging to the Sassanid Empire, located in present-day Turkmenistan. The site encompasses an area of 12,000 square meters, with the central tell being 60 feet high and 700 feet in circumference. This archaeological site provides insight into the urban planning and architectural style of the Sassanid period, which flourished during the Late Classical Period. The city's location near modern-day Kaka suggests it may have played a significant role in regional trade and governance during its time. As a Sassanid city, Abiward contributes valuable information to our understanding of the empire's urban centers and their strategic importance within the broader context of Central Asian history.
