About

The archaeological site of Maidanetske in Ukraine is notable for its extensive Cucuteni-Trypillian culture settlements, dating back to the Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods. The first settlement, established around 5000 BCE, covered approximately 2 hectares and included dwellings and bordei. The second, much larger settlement emerged around 3700 BCE and spanned 250 hectares, making it one of the largest known settlements of its time, with a significant population and advanced urban planning. Excavations revealed over 1,500 buildings, including fortifications and religious sanctuaries, alongside painted pottery and figurines. Maidanetske is also home to Yamnaya culture burial mounds and a Chernyakhov culture site, reflecting its long history of habitation and cultural significance.
