About
Naryn Castle, located in Meybod, Iran, is an ancient mud-adobe fortification, notable for its impressive height of 40 meters and its four defensive towers. Estimated to be between 2,000 and 6,000 years old, the castle showcases advanced construction techniques for its time, including a plumbing system made from sarooj mortar. This fortification is reminiscent in design to the Ali Qapu palace of Isfahan and includes a terrace accessible by helical stairwells. The structure possibly served multiple purposes, including as a prison, indicated by its large underground chamber. Naryn Castle represents an important element of the region's pre-Islamic defensive architecture, incorporating elements from the Medes, Achaemenid, and Sassanid periods. It highlights the strategic and architectural sophistication of ancient civilizations in central Iran.
