About
Rab'-e Rashidi is an archaeological site located in Tabriz, Iran, known for its ruins of a 14th-century academic and cultural complex. Originally established by Rashid al-Din Hamadani, the site included a school, a library, a workshop for book production, and various other facilities such as a hospital and mosques. The complex was intended to be a center for scholars and intellectuals from across regions, but it fell into decline following Rashid al-Din's execution in 1318 CE. Despite attempts at revival and expansion, including efforts by his son Ghiyas al-Din in the 1330s and later by Malik Ashraf in 1351 CE, the site continued to deteriorate. Archaeological evidence of defensive structures, residential quarters, and artistic features like mosaics and minarets provides insight into its historical significance as a center of learning and culture during the Ilkhanid period.
