About
Tall Hujayrat Al-Ghuzlan is a significant Chalcolithic archaeological site located 4 km north of modern-day Aqaba, Jordan. This site, along with the nearby Tall Al-Magass, provides substantial evidence of early copper production and trade, indicating the region's role in ancient metallurgy. Archaeological features discovered at the site include depictions of humans and animals on building walls, suggesting religious significance, and an advanced irrigation system used for cultivating crops such as grapes and wheat. The presence of clay pots of varying sizes points to the site's industrial activities, likely involving copper smelting and shaping. Scientific studies have determined that the site experienced two significant earthquakes, with the latter causing complete destruction. These findings highlight the site's importance in understanding early technological and cultural developments in the Chalcolithic period.
