Location

About

Deriana, located in northeastern Libya, is a site of potential archaeological significance, thought to be the location of the ancient Roman city Hadrianopolis, also known as Hadriane. This city, established during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the early 2nd century CE, holds historical importance as a representation of Roman urban planning and architecture in the Cyrenaica region. Despite the lack of direct archaeological evidence at Deriana itself, nearby sites such as Wadi Jawbiyah show promise for uncovering artifacts and structures that could be connected to Hadrianopolis. The exploration of these sites could provide valuable insights into the Roman influence in North Africa and contribute to our understanding of ancient city development in the Classical Period.
